THANK YOU
Apologies to those whose names were omitted from the last issue of the Dove:

  • Fred Bartz who obtained and installed the outside anniversary banners and Pastor Blemaster who helped with the Confirmation Reunion addresses
  • Women’s Guild for making the delicious sandwiches for our receptions
  • Congressman Brian Higgins and Bay Forrest, our Anniversary Banquet Speakers and Joe Odhiambo for his awesome basketball presentation at the banquet
  • Our guest pastors: Pastors David Wurster, Dennis Putzman, Ron Sprehe, Paul Pfohl, Richard Blemaster, David Belasic, Robert Volkert, Karl Brenner and Chris Wicher.

We sincerely appreciate all the hard work and leadership from our Co-Chairs, Janet Overdorf and Norrine Nagel.

Approximately $6,800 was remaining from all the fundraisers we did throughout the year. At the final committee meeting on January 13, 2018 it was decided to reimburse the Current Fund for the cost of postage, paper and ink for the 100th Anniversary mailings, to obtain an engraved Brick on the Pathway in honor of the 100th Anniversary and the remaining funds will be given for the Front Steps.

We thank God for all His blessings during our anniversary year. We ask for His continued blessings as we look forward to the future as we reach out into our community with Jesus’ love. God has been with us in the past, in the present and will be in the future; therefore we remember our theme verse “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

 The Lutheran Chorale

On December 17, 2017, Salem hosted The Lutheran Chorale under the direction of Thomas J. Mudd, with their presentation of “An International Christmas.”  This concert was the final event of our yearlong celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation and the 100th Anniversary of Salem Lutheran Church.  A free will offering was collected for this concert.

The concert was a wonderful, joyous representation of Christmas music from many areas of the world.  One highlight was “The Star Carol” (English) presented with the accompaniment of Teresa Leone and Betsy Hager in a rousing piano duet.  The Chorale members and both accompanists were fantastic!  What a treat for the audience.

Thanks to all who donated pies and helped with the reception.  The Lutheran Chorale director and members have expressed their delight at performing at Salem so hopefully; there will be more opportunities to hear them in the future.

Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration

Salem's 100th Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration was held on January 29, 2017 and a great time was had by all.  The congregation celebrated with a German-themed potluck luncheon and plenty of good fellowship. The main entrée featured roast pork with sauerkraut.

Much behind the scenes work and preparation helped make this event a great success!
