The purpose of Salem's Golden Agers is to serve and fellowship with our ecumenical community. We begin our monthly meetings by reciting Psalm 118:24 — "This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."  It is a reminder for us to always be grateful for our daily blessings.

Meetings:  Four times per year
Time:  12:00 – Noon
Place:  Salem Church Basement
Next Meeting:  See weekly bulletin

Anyone 55 and over is welcome to join. Invite your friends or neighbors; they are always welcome as well.  Please bring a bag lunch — dessert and beverage will be provided. A presenter will be sought out for the upcoming meeting.

Golden Agers Co-Coordinator:  Paul Thomas, Jr.

The ‘Famous Sunday in the (Forest Lawn) Cemetery Trolley Tour’ our group of 13 took on August 25th was very entertaining and informative.  We started out with a light lunch at church and then carpooled across the city.  The past (deceased) owner of the Forest Lawn Cemetery came above ground and acted as our ‘host’ visiting the sites of some of his favorite and noteworthy neighbors during the two-hour tour.  We saw sites of a U.S. President, famous musician (Rick James), beautiful sculptures and the stories and history behind them.  Our group highly recommends taking the Trolley Tour on your own if you get a chance.

Below are a few pictures from that tour.

Salem's Golden Agers' Celebrate 50th Anniversary!

On Thursday, November 2, 2023 Salem's Golden Agers celebrated the groups founding at the monthly meeting.  Originally started in 1973 at the behest of Rev. Richard E. Blemaster the group quickly grew in popularity and members.

Back then some of the younger members of the congregation helped coordinate the meetings and events but soon everything was being organized by the Golden Agers themselves.  It is interesting to note that some of those young helpers are currently Golden Agers at Salem.

The 50th celebration party included a delicious full course buffet with a special cake for dessert.  The group reminisced about past events, speakers, trips, and special members.  Hymns were sung by all and were accompanied on the piano by Nick Kempski.  Everyone present seemed to enjoy the celebration!

Special thanks to the Golden Agers' Co-Coordinators Lois Doll and Paul Thomas for organizing this event.
